LSU named Tournament Champions after finishing 3-0 on the weekend

HOUSTON, TX — The 24th annual Astros Foundation College Classic concluded over the weekend at Minute Maid Park with LSU being named the Tournament Champions after going 3-0 with a plus-nine run differential in victories over Texas, Louisiana and Texas State. LSU’s run differential narrowly edged out Vanderbilt, which also went 3-0 with a plus-eight run differential. Rounding out the field, Texas State went 2-1, Houston went 1-2, while both Louisiana and Texas finished 0-3.

Minute Maid Park hosted a total attendance of 61,379 over the weekend, which represents a tournament record. The crowd topped out on Friday, as 24,927 fans were on hand, which marked the second-highest single day attendance figure in tournament history and the highest since 2006. Offense was aplenty, with the six teams combining for 132 runs over the weekend, the highest total in tournament history. The tournament also featured tight contests, as eight of the nine games were decided by three-or-fewer runs, including two extra-inning games, and a walkoff homer in a win by Texas State on Friday.

Listed below is the 2024 Astros Foundation College Classic All-Tournament Team, which was highlighted by the Classic’s Most Outstanding Player 2B Chase Mora from Texas State. Mora led the tournament with an eye-popping 10 RBI, while hitting .462 (6x13) with a double, two runs scored and two walks in three games. He hit a walkoff two-run homer on Friday to beat Houston, and followed that up by hitting a grand slam and driving in five in Texas State’s win on Saturday vs. Texas.

The Astros Foundation College Classic Most Outstanding Player: 2B Chase Mora, Texas State

The 25th annual tournament will return next season for another nine games at Minute Maid Park from Feb. 28-March 2, 2025. The tournament field will be announced at a later date.
