Astros announce Minor League Players of the Month

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros player development department has named RHP Adrian Chaidez the Astros Minor League Player of the Month for April, and IF Enmanuel Valdez the Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April.

Chaidez, 22, recorded a 2.45 ERA (5ER/18.1IP) with 27 strikeouts, 0.89 WHIP and a .164 opponent batting average in five appearances including two starts in April for High A Asheville. The right-handed pitcher was also named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 18-24. He made one appearance during the week on April 20 at Jersey Shore. In that appearance which was also his first career start, Chaidez tossed six perfect innings with nine strikeouts.

Chaidez currently ranks T-2nd in strikeouts, T-3rd in WHIP, T-4th in opponent batting average and 5th in ERA in the South Atlantic League.

Valdez, 23, batted .344 (21x61) with four home runs, six doubles, 17 RBI, 13 walks and a 1.098 OPS (.459 OBP. / .639 SLG.) in 17 appearances in April for Double A Corpus Christi.

Valdez ranks currently 5th in on-base percentage, 6th in batting average, 6th in slugging percentage, 6th in OPS, T-9th in home runs, T-10th in RBI and T-10th in walks in the Texas League.
