The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms with RHP Tyler Chatwood on a one-year contract (US $3,000,000). To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Anthony Castro has been designated for assignment.
Chatwood, 31, went 2-2 with a 5.30 ERA while recording 25 strikeouts in 18.2 innings for the Chicago Cubs last season. The Redlands, CA, native was limited to five starts, hampered by two stints on the 10-day injured list. Chatwood was originally selected by Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the second round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft and has played for the Angels, Rockies, and Cubs throughout his nine-year career. Over the course of 143 starts and 54 relief appearances, the 5-11, 200 lb. right-handed pitcher owns 51-57 record and a 4.40 ERA.
