Brewers name Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for April
Black Named Player of the Month; Jarvis Earns Pitcher of the Month
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have named infielder Tyler Black as Minor League Player of the Month and right-handed pitcher Justin Jarvis as Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April.
Black, 22, carried a .456 on-base percentage and a .938 OPS in April, batting .250 (14-for-56) with 4 HR, 13 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 18 games for Double-A Biloxi. He drew 17 walks and struck out just 10 times in 79 plate appearances, reaching base safely in 17 of his 18 games.
Selected in Competitive Balance Round A (33rd overall) of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, Black ranked among Southern League leaders for April in on-base percentage (2nd, .456), walks (T2nd, 17), stolen bases (3rd, 10), runs (T3rd, 15), OPS (4th, .938), slugging percentage (T6th, .482) and RBI (T9th, 13).
Jarvis, 23, went 2-1 with a 1.57 ERA (23ip, 4er) and 29 strikeouts over 4 starts for Double-A Biloxi in April.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, Jarvis allowed 1 run or fewer in 3 of his 4 starts in April. He surrendered just 1 hit with 8 strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless innings on April 11 vs. Pensacola and fanned 10 batters over 6.0 scoreless frames on April 22 at Rocket City.
Jarvis ranked among Southern League leaders for the month in ERA (2nd, 1.57), WHIP (3rd, 1.00), opponent batting average (3rd, .205), wins (T3rd, 2), innings pitched (4th, 23.0) and strikeouts (8th, 29).
