Chicago White Sox Charities honors 2022 grant recipients
Today’s Pregame Ceremony Recognizes 39 Chicagoland Organizations
CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox today announced cumulative charitable donations of more than $1.9 million over the past year. Donations include $655,000 in grants to 28 Chicagoland non-profit organizations through the White Sox Community Fund, a McCormick Foundation (MF) Fund, as well as $157,500 through Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) to 11 agencies providing services throughout the community.
CWSC also made donations totaling nearly $1.1 million to support the Chicago Sports Alliance and its work to find innovative solutions to gun violence, White Sox youth baseball initiatives – including the organization’s Amateur City Elite (ACE) and Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) programs – and to fund non-profit organizations, such as the Jackie Robinson Foundation, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. This year’s grant donations, complemented by charitable contributions since the inception of CWSC, move the team’s total giving to more than $38 million.
“Our organization’s philanthropic initiatives are committed to finding new ways of enriching the community and the lives of children and families across Chicagoland,” explains Christine O’Reilly, CWSC executive director. “Today’s ceremony recognizes our extended family of fans and partners who support this vision and is a celebration of all the incredible local organizations that share our passion for making Chicago a better place to live, work and play.”
“Since 2009, the White Sox Community Fund has distributed more than $8.5 million to improve the lives of those in need and transform communities through grants that support child abuse prevention and treatment, access to and persistence in post-secondary education, and health and wellness,” said MF President and Chief Executive Office Timothy P. Knight. “The McCormick Foundation is grateful for the continued partnership with Chicago White Sox Charities and its outstanding commitment to strengthen Chicago communities.”
The White Sox will hold a special ceremony, presented by Peoples Gas, to recognize the 39 non-profit organizations prior to the game today against Toronto at 1:10 p.m.
Each year, grants are made possible by generous contributions from White Sox corporate partners, fans and matching funds from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. Fans can show their support throughout the 2022 season by participating in a variety of fundraising initiatives, including Sox Split 50/50, presented by Wintrust, online and in-park auctions, among other programming.
