CHICAGO – In recognition of National Voter Registration Day today, September 20, the Chicago White Sox announce a renewed partnership with Rally the Vote, a nonpartisan coalition founded by the Sacramento Kings to increase civic engagement through professional sports team resources.
White Sox support of the nationwide campaign, comprising more than 50 professional sports franchises across multiple leagues, includes sharing convenient resources, like the voter registration tool, and building awareness around key dates on the Illinois election calendar.
“The freedom and right to vote is a civic responsibility that we should not take for granted,” said Christine O’Reilly, White Sox vice president of community relations. “As an organization, we know that voting is a critical and essential part of democracy. We want to utilize our platform to emphasize that message and provide convenient resources for all citizens to participate in the democratic process.”
The White Sox re-launched its “Step Up to the Plate and Vote” campaign, creating an online hub at whitesox.com/vote to share voter registration and election poll information. The White Sox will remind fans about key dates and voter registration by sharing details through the team’s many channels – social media, broadcast and in-game assets.
The awareness campaign will continue leading up to the Illinois midterm elections on Tuesday, November 8. The efforts share important dates on the state’s election calendar, including the Illinois voter registration deadline on Sunday, October 23 and early voting day on Friday, October 28.
Earlier this season, Rally the Vote officially joined When We All Vote, a leading, national nonpartisan initiative focused on changing the culture around voting and increasing election participation. Rally the Vote 2022 coalition members include the Chicago Bulls, the Los Angeles Clippers, Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants, among others.
