Chicago White Sox RBI sweeps the baseball championships of the 2022 RBI World Series

Program Wins Third Overall Junior Division Championship (2016, 2019, 2022) and Second Senior Division Championship (2018, 2022); Seventh Time in RBI World Series History That The Same Program Has Swept Baseball Championships; First Since 2009

Today in Holman Stadium at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Fla., the Chicago White Sox RBI program swept the baseball championships of the 2022 RBI World Series. Chicago won the Junior Division Championship following a 7-4 victory over the defending champion Atlanta Braves RBI. It was the program’s third overall Junior Division Championship (2016, 2019, 2022). The older team dominated the Senior Division Championship Game with a 18-5 victory over Paterson (New Jersey) RBI. It is the program’s second overall Senior Division Championship (2018, 2022). It is the seventh time in RBI World Series history that a program has swept the baseball championships and the first time since 2009.

Chicago right fielder Lance Moon was named the MLB Develops Chevy MVP of the Junior Division Championship Game after delivering the decisive two-out, two-RBI single in the top of the 6th inning. He finished the game with a team-leading three hits while also scoring two runs.

Senior Division Championship Game left fielder Sean Moore was named the MLB Develops Chevy MVP after delivering a 3-3 day at the plate with a game-high 5 RBIs. Moore was practically perfect throughout the tournament, finishing with a pristine 1.000 batting average, a 2.375 OPS and a team-high 9 RBIs at the plate. On the mound, he delivered 2.2 innings of scoreless work with six strikeouts.

The RBI program has provided a path for many players to enter the college and professional game. MLB Clubs have drafted more than 300 RBI participants throughout the program’s 34-year history, and many others have been given the opportunity for higher education through baseball and softball scholarships. There have been more than 100 RBI alumni selected between the 2013-2022 MLB Drafts.

Crawford (Seattle Mariners), Hunter Greene (Cincinnati Reds), Michael Harris II (Atlanta Braves), Josh Harrison (Chicago White Sox), Eloy Jimenez (Chicago White Sox), Ramon Laureano (Oakland A’s), Bryan Lavastida (Cleveland Guardians), Nomar Mazara (San Diego Padres), Anthony Rendon (Los Angeles Angels), Dominic Smith (New York Mets), Dillon Tate (Baltimore Orioles), Alek Thomas (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Justin Upton (free agent – previously with the Seattle Mariners). Crawford (Venice Boys & Girls Club RBI – ‘09), Green (Venice Boys & Girls Club RBI – ’13), Jimenez (Dominican Republic RBI – ’12), Lavastida (Miami Marlins RBI – ’15), Mazara (Dominican Republic RBI – ‘11), and Smith (Venice Boys & Girls Club RBI – ‘09) have each played in the RBI World Series.

The RBI World Series is the international baseball and softball championship tournament of the Major League Baseball RBI program, which is designed to provide young people from underserved and diverse communities with the opportunity to play baseball and softball, encourage academic success and teach the value of teamwork.
