Colorado Rockies agree to contract extension with right-handed pitcher Germán Márquez

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have agreed to a two-year contract extension with right-handed pitcher Germán Márquez, covering the 2024-25 seasons.

“Germán has been an integral part of the Rockies organization both on and off the field since his first Major League season in 2016,” said Rockies Senior Vice President and General Manager Bill Schmidt. “We are excited to secure Germán’s future in Denver with this extension and can’t wait to see him back out on the mound.”

Márquez, 28, debuted for the Rockies in 2016 and has compiled a 65-56 record to go along with a career 4.41 ERA (1016.0 IP, 498 ER) over 176 games (173 starts) … ranks second in franchise history with 983 strikeouts, two shy of tying Jorge De La Rosa for the franchise record … also ranks second in strikeouts per nine innings pitched (8.708), third in wins, fourth in innings pitched, fifth in games started and sixth in ERA (min. 500 IP) … in 2021, started his second consecutive Opening Day and represented the Rockies in his first All-Star game at Coors Field … finished the season tied with the most complete games in the Majors (three) and led the Rockies with 180.0 innings pitched … led the National League with 82.1 innings pitched in 2020 while his 13 starts were tied for the Major League lead … set a single-season franchise record with 230 strikeouts in 2018 and earned the National League Silver Slugger Award at pitcher … in 2017 made his first Opening Day roster and led all Major League rookies with 14 quality starts and 147 strikeouts … made his Major League debut on Sept. 8, 2016 at San Diego in
