Colorado Rockies agree to terms with second-round selection Chris McMahon

Club also signs Luke Leisenring and Tanner Propst as non-drafted amateur free agents

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Chris McMahon, selected in the second round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami. Additionally, the Rockies announced the signings of two non-drafted amateur free agents: catcher Luke Leisenring out of the University of South Carolina Aiken and left-handed pitcher Tanner Propst out of Delta State University. Per Club policy, terms of the agreements will not be disclosed.

Chris McMahon, a junior out of the University of Miami and native of West Chester, Penn., went 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA (25.2 IP, 3 ER) over four starts in the abbreviated 2020 season with five walks and 38 strikeouts … from 2018-20, the 6-foot-2, 217-pound righty combined to go 7-3 with a 3.28 ERA (112.1 IP, 41 ER), 37 walks and 123 strikeouts … was selected as a 2020 Collegiate Baseball All-America Second Team member, a 2019 All-ACC Academic and was selected to the 2019 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team … was previously selected by Atlanta in the 33rd round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft … attended West Chester Rustin High School, where he led the team to league championships each of his three high school seasons … was conference Player of the Year in 2017.

Luke Leisenring, a 6-foot-4, 196-pound junior catcher who hails from Golden, Colo., started all 20 games at catcher for the Pacers in their abbreviated 2020 season and batted .348 (24-for-69) with 20 runs scored, 12 RBI and four home runs … across two seasons at USC Aiken, batted .311 (75-for-241) with 62 runs scored, 10 home runs and 41 RBI while throwing out six of 21 attempted base stealers … attended Arizona State University his freshman year in 2018, where he batted .250 (6-for-24) across 14 games with six starts … attended Ralston Valley HS in Arvada, Colo., where he was ranked the best catching prospect and the fifth-best overall prospect in Colorado by Prep Baseball Report … Perfect Game also ranked him as the best high school catcher in the state and the fourth-best prospect … was a two-time Perfect Game Underclass All-American (High Honorable Mention).

Tanner Propst, a 6-foot, 195-pound redshirt junior and native of Madison, Miss., made 10 relief appearances in 2020 and posted a record of 2-0 with two saves and a 3.72 ERA (9.2 IP, 4 ER) with two walks and 17 strikeouts … made two appearances for Louisiana Tech in 2018, striking out five across two hitless innings … attended Madison-Ridgeland Academy (Miss.), where he posted a 2.27 ERA with 59 strikeouts across 49.1 innings in his senior season in 2016 … earned All-Conference selection and was an All-Star game selection while also helping his Patriots win a school-record 32 games … pitched a complete game in the 4A State Championship game.
