  • Darryl Scott named pitching coach

Additionally, Stu Cole (third base coach), Ron Gideon (first base coach), Dave Magadan (hitting coach) and Mike Redmond (bench coach) will all return to Manager Bud Black’s staff for the 2022 season.

“I’m thrilled to have Reid, Andy and P.J. join our coaching staff for the 2022 season,” said Black. “Each of them has a tremendous amount of credibility and knowledge and they are well respected throughout the game. I’m also excited for Darryl’s transition to pitching coach, having witnessed firsthand his work with our bullpen and his long term success as a Minor League pitching coach and coordinator. I’m anxious and excited to work with these four and the rest of our staff in the coming season.”

Cornelius joins the Rockies as the club’s bullpen coach after serving as the Miami Marlins’ rehab pitching coach in 2021, his 32nd season in professional baseball. Cornelius rejoined the Marlins in 2019 after serving two seasons as the Triple-A Gwinnett pitching coach in the Atlanta Braves organization. Prior to joining the Braves, spent the previous 14 seasons (2003-16) in a variety of coaching roles in the Marlins organization, working the final seven years (2010-16) as the Major League bullpen coach, including each of the 2013-15 seasons under then Marlins manager and current Rockies bench Coach Mike Redmond. The Thomasville, Ala., native enjoyed a 13-year playing career including Major League stints with Montreal (1995), New York-NL (1995) and Florida (1999-2000).

González will be in his first season as the club’s assistant hitting coach after spending each of the last three seasons as the Rockies’ camps and fundamentals coordinator. The 2022 season will be his eighth with the Rockies organization, having spent three seasons as the supervisor of player development for Rookie Level Grand Junction (2017-19), one season as the manager of Short-Season Boise (2016) and one season as Boise’s hitting coach (2015). The Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico native played in parts of three Major League seasons with the White Sox (2007), Indians (2008) and Marlins (2009). A former infielder, Gonzalez last played in affiliated ball in 2013 in the Philadelphia organization.

Pilittere joins the Rockies after spending the past four seasons as the assistant hitting coach with the New York Yankees, his first stint in a Major League coaching role. Prior to joining the Yankees’ Major League staff, Pilittere (pronounced “pill-ih-TAIR-ee”) served as the hitting coach at four different levels in the Yankees organization over five years from 2013-17: Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (2017), Double-A Trenton (2015-16), High-A Tampa (2014) and Low-A Charleston (2013). The San Dimas, Calif., native began his coaching career as a coach with the GCL Yankees in 2012 after playing in eight Minor League seasons as a catcher in the Yankees system from 2004-11.

Scott transitions to the role of pitching coach after serving the past two seasons as the Rockies’ bullpen coach. Prior to joining the Major League staff, Scott worked for three seasons (2017-19) as one of the club’s Minor League pitching coordinators. A member of the Rockies organization since 2011, Scott has previously served as the pitching coach at four different Rockies affiliates: Triple-A Albuquerque (2015-16), Double-A Tulsa (2013-14), High-A Modesto (2011-12) and Short-Season Tri-City (2013). The Fresno, Calif, native pitched professionally for 11 seasons in six different organizations, including the Rockies in 1995 and 2000.
