PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled LHP Travis Bergen (@TBergen_) from the Alternate Training Site and optioned RHP Joel Payamps to the Alternate Training Site.
Bergen, 26, will wear No. 47 for the D-backs. He was acquired on Aug. 31 from the Blue Jays for LHP Robbie Ray and cash considerations.
He appeared in 1 game for the Blue Jays this season, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings (1 H, 1 BB, 3 K) on Aug. 25 vs. Red Sox. Overall, he has played parts of the last 2 seasons in the Majors with the Giants (2019) and Blue Jays (2020). In 22 career relief appearances, he is 2-0 with a 5.06 ERA (12 ER in 21.1 IP), .238 opponent average and 21 strikeouts. Last season with the Giants, he held opponents scoreless in 16 of 21 appearances and limited lefties to a .192 average (5-for-26) with 4 strikeouts.
Payamps, 26, has made 1 appearance for the D-backs this season, allowed 2 runs (1 earned) over 2.0 innings on Sept. 1 @ Dodgers.
