Dodgers Activate LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu
RHP Casey Sadler Optioned To Triple-A Oklahoma City
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that they have activated left-handed pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu from the 10-day injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Casey Sadler to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Ryu was originally placed on the injured list on August 2 with neck stiffness. The All-Star is 11-2 with a 1.53 ERA (23 ER/135.2 IP) and 117 strikeouts this season. He is among the Major League leaders in ERA (1st), winning percentage (2nd, .846), strikeouts-to-walk ratio (2nd, 7.31), WHIP (2nd, 0.94), opponents on-base percentage (2nd, .248) and slugging percentage (3rd, .329). The South Korea native is coming off one of best months of his career, in which he posted a 2-0 record with a 0.55 ERA (2 ER/32.2 IP) and 23 strikeouts in five July starts. He was awarded National League Pitcher of the Month for May after going 5-0 with a 0.59 ERA (3 ER/45.2 IP) and 26 strikeouts. In the last two seasons, he is a combined 18-5 with a 1.69 ERA (41 ER/218.0 IP) and 206 strikeouts, including a 13-2 record with a 1.01 ERA (14 ER/125.1 IP) in 19 home starts.
Sadler was optioned for the second time this season by the Dodgers. The Oklahoma native appeared in nine games for the Dodgers, allowing one earned run over 12.1 innings (0.73 ERA) with eight strikeouts. The righty has appeared in 18 Major League games this season, allowing five earned runs in 31.2 innings of work for a 1.42 ERA for the Tampa Bay Rays and the Dodgers. He was acquired by the Dodgers on July 3 from Tampa Bay in exchange for Nathan Witt.
