Semien was the leading vote-getter (1,943,085) among American League second basemen, the fourth most overall votes of any A.L. player. A catalyst for the Rangers’ offense, Semien ranks among A.L. leaders in runs (1st, 61), hits (T2nd, 86), doubles (3rd, 22), total bases (5th, 142), extra-base hits (T5th, 34) and RBI (T6th, 54). The 2021 All-Star had a career-best and longest in MLB 25-game hitting streak from May 10-June 6. Per statcast, Semien’s six Outs Above Average are the most among qualified AL second basemen.
Seager, an A.L. All-Star with Texas in 2022, and three-time All-Star in his career, finished Phase 1 with the second-most votes (1,287,023) among A.L. shortstops, behind only Toronto’s Bo Bichette. In 43 games, Seager is hitting .358 with 19 doubles, 10 home runs, 45 RBI and a 1.060 OPS. Since returning from the Injured List on May 17, Seager is among A.L. leaders in hits (1st, 48), total bases (1st, 90), doubles (1st, 15), RBI (1st, 41), average (2nd, .358), home runs (2nd, 9), OPS (2nd, 1.073), and runs (T6th, 22). Seager was the American League Player of the Week from May 29 – June 4.
Jung, 25, is looking to become the first Rangers rookie to be named an All-Star Game starter. Jung received 1,243,366 votes in Phase 1 voting, the most among A.L. third basemen. Jung ranks among A.L. leaders in runs (T3rd, 51), total bases (6th, 138), home runs (T8th, 15), slugging (10th, .493), and RBI (T13th, 44). His 15 home runs lead all AL rookies. Jung has played a stellar hot corner as his .979 fielding percentage (4E/193 TC) ranks second-highest among qualified A.L. third basemen. He was also named A.L. Rookie of the Month in April and May.
Heim, 27, finished second among A.L. catchers with 969,250 votes, trailing only Baltimore’s Adley Rutschman. Heim is among AL catching leaders in average (1st, .276), runs (1st, 38), RBI (1st, 54), doubles (1st, 16), slugging (2nd, .465), OPS (2nd, .792), extra-base hits (2nd, 26), home runs (T2nd, 10), hits (3rd, 67), and total bases (3rd, 113). Heim’s 3.49 catcher ERA ranks 2nd among A.L./MLB catchers.
García, a 2021 All-Star with the Rangers, finished sixth among A.L. outfielders with 880,711 votes in Phase 1 voting. He is among A.L. leaders in RBI (T1st, 58), runs (2nd, 54), home runs (T6th, 16), total bases (7th, 136), extra-base hits (T9th, 31), and slugging (12th, .489). García was the American League Player of the Week from April 17-23 and became the third player in the Modern Era with 16-or-more total bases, 3-or-more home runs, 8-or-more RBI and 5-or-more runs in a game on April 22 vs. Oakland. García also leads all Major League Baseball outfielders with 10 outfield assists, three more than any other player.
García was a Phase 2 finalist in 2021 but did not win the fan vote, and the Rangers had two finalists in 2019, the first season this format started. Hunter Pence won the starting position as the A.L’s All-Star designated hitter but did not play in the game due to injury. Joey Gallo finished seventh in the A.L. outfield voting and was subsequently selected to the A.L. All-Star squad as a reserve through the player voting.
Full rosters for the 2023 All-Star Game are scheduled to be announced on Sunday, July 2 on ESPN at 4:30 CT leading into Baseball Tonight and Sunday Night Baseball.
