Fourth annual “D-backs Give Back to School” events impact local students by supporting education initiatives throughout August

The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation kicks off the fourth annual “D-backs Give Back to School” events, featuring special D-backs player appearances, charitable grants and educational programs that support Phoenix area students and teachers.

Wednesday, August 16 at 10 a.m.: Arizona Diamondbacks and Honeywell Futureshaper STEM Grants Visit

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Honeywell are deeply committed to supporting outstanding STEM educators and education initiatives. During the 2023 season, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Honeywell Futureshaper STEM Grants Program will support 10 schools with a $5,000 grant to bring STEM projects to life. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Honeywell will present Hope Academy with a $5,000 grant to fund a makerspace, an innovative and creative learning area that encourages interactive STEM activities.

Sunday, August 20 at 9 a.m.: D-backs Science of Baseball, Presented by Resolution Copper

The D-backs Science of Baseball, presented by Resolution Copper, is a series of programs and initiatives promoting STEM's importance. Recognizing that STEM is a priority within the community and the education system, the D-backs created season-long programming and partnership opportunities designed to engage with teachers, schools, and students. On Sunday, 65 Phoenix area STEM teachers (grades 3-8) will participate in a FREE D-backs Science of Baseball teacher workshop at Salt River Fields, where they will have the opportunity to learn new and fun ways to teach students a variety of STEM concepts through the game of baseball. Teachers that attend the training will receive the D-backs Science of Baseball curriculum and activity books for their students, courtesy of the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and Resolution Copper, and tickets to a D-backs game.

Tuesday, August 22 at 10 a.m.: Arizona Diamondbacks Read Your Way to the Ballpark, Supported by Avnet

Herrera School for the Arts and Dual Language, 1350 S. 11th St., Phoenix, AZ 85034

D-backs player will be in attendance

The Arizona Diamondbacks Read Your Way to the Ballpark Program, supported by Avnet, is a K-6 school reading program designed to stimulate interest in reading and literacy while also providing funding for new books in the classroom. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Avnet will visit Herrera School and present a special class with a Read Your Way to the Ballpark classroom kit and a $1,000 grant to supply the students with new books.

Thursday, August 24 at 10 a.m.: Assistance League D-backs Delivering Dreams Bus & Honeywell STEM Book Delivery

W.T. Machan Elementary School, 2140 E Virginia Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85006

D-backs players will be in attendance

The “D-backs Delivering Dreams Bus” through a partnership with the Assistance League, is a mobile dressing center stocked with shoes, clothes, books, school supplies, and hygiene kits that travels across the Valley to schools with a high percentage of low-income families, outfitting thousands of students in need. D-backs players will visit Machan Elementary school to help students choose uniforms and shoes for the school year. In addition, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Honeywell teamed up to create STEM books to encourage elementary students to become more interested in STEM at a developmental age. Baxter will make surprise deliveries of the STEM books to classrooms.

Thursday, August 24 at 12:45 p.m.: Be Kind People Project, Presented by Arizona Complete Health

Tavan Elementary School – School Assembly, 4610 E. Osborn Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85018

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Complete Health teamed up with the Be Kind People Project to help spread a message of anti-bullying and friendships. Through the program, schools throughout Arizona will receive a special Buddy Bench during a Be Kind People Project School Assembly courtesy of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Complete Health. The Buddy Bench is a place where all students can go to make new friends. Tavan Elementary will host a schoolwide Be Kind Assembly with D-backs special guest, Baxter.

Tuesday, August 29: D-backs Fun at Bat, Supported locally by Whataburger

ASU Preparatory Academy at Pilgrim Rest, 1401 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, AZ 85034

D-backs Fun at Bat supported locally by Whataburger, is a FREE entry-level bat and ball program designed for use in elementary physical education classes. The joint initiative from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Major League Baseball and USA Baseball promotes fun and active lifestyles for children while teaching them the fundamental skills of bat and ball sports. ASU Preparatory Academy at Pilgrim Rest will receive free Fun at Bat equipment and a P.E. class takeover from D-backs Baseball Academy coaches.
