SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies completed a trade today with RHP Ramon Marquez and RHP Marty Gair joining the Giants in exchange for IF Luis Arraez and RHP Caleb Kilian.
Marquez, 20, was Philadelphia’s fourth-ranked prospect according to MLB.com and Baseball America while FanGraphs had him as the Phillies’ No. 3 prospect and the 67th-best prospect in baseball. He was pitching at High-A Jersey Shore where he was 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA (5er, 30.0ip), 46 strikeouts, a .115 batting average against and a 0.67 WHIP in six starts. He began this season in Single-A Clearwater and went 3-0 with a 1.86 ERA (6er, 29.0ip) with 47 strikeouts, a .173 batting average against and a 0.97 WHIP in six games (five starts) before his promotion to High-A.
He’s also garnered three Pitcher of the Week awards at his two stops this season. He was the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week with Clearwater for the week of May 17 and twice won it at High-A Jersey Shore (June 21 and July 26). In 26 career minor league games (23 starts), Marquez is 9-4 with a 3.00 ERA (38er, 114.0ip), 165 strikeouts, a .198 batting average against, a 1.03 WHIP and a 13.03 K/9ip ratio. He was originally signed by the Phillies as a 19-year-old as an International free agent on January 15, 2025.
Gair, 23, had also recently joined High-A Jersey Shore where he’d made two scoreless relief outings with eight strikeouts in 3.0 innings. In 28 relief appearances for Single-A Clearwater before his promotion he was 2-3 with a 4.91 ERA (18er, 33.0ip) with 58 strikeouts, a .159 opponent’s average against and a 1.18 WHIP. Overall, his 43% strikeout rate with the Threshers was highest in the Florida State League before his promotion (min. 30.0ip).
A 13th-round selection of the Phillies in the 2023 draft out of Florida Southwestern State College, Gair is 3-3 with a 4.43 ERA (31er, 63.0ip), 106 strikeouts, a .184 batting average against, a 15.14 K/9ip ratio and a 1.52 WIHP in 54 career minor league games.
Arraez, a 2026 All-Star, was leading the National League with a .324 batting average while his 136 hits were second-most in the Majors. He also had 23 doubles, seven triples, four homers, 43 RBI and an .800 OPS in 105 games. Kilian was 3-6 with a 4.26 ERA (21er, 44.1ip) in a team-leading 45 games while also recording eight saves in 11 opportunities.
