Globe Life Field – the new home of the Texas Rangers – is a modern marvel that also celebrates the team’s past. Outside and inside, the ballpark pays homage to the team’s championships, achievements and milestones from its decades of heritage and history.

No place is this celebrated more dramatically than the North Entrance of Globe Life Field, where the Rangers “Mount Rushmore” are honored with a custom display and sculpted jersey embedded into the iconic columns that line the North side of the ballpark.

Eight shadow box displays greet fans entering the ballpark and let them know they are in the home of the Texas Rangers. Featured in these displays are the five players whose numbers are retired by the team, the two American League Championship teams (2010 and 2011), and the Arlington Mayor whose vision brought an MLB franchise to this city.

Inside each display is a sculpted Rangers jersey from each honoree’s era that offers a stylized realism to give the appearance the jersey is hanging in a locker. Each jersey is hand carved and crafted out of “three-pound foam” (a slightly denser material than Styrofoam) and measures roughly 4 ½’ tall by 2’ wide. Half of the relief is sculpted. The other half is done scenically – a painting technique that paints the jersey folds to appear dimensional (which are technically flat) and to enhance the volume of the shape in a confined space.

Creating the jerseys took approximately seven weeks. The process for each jersey began with placing a mounting system on the back of the foam. While hanging in the studio, the foam was sculpted, sanded, and received a “foam coat” (a flexible, somewhat rigid material). Multiple layers of the coating were applied, with a sanding in between each. Then each jersey would get primed and base painted before the graphics were applied. Finally, each was detailed and finished with a varnish.

Each jersey is displayed in a custom stained wood cabinet along with an iconic photo and the honoree’s name etched into the display in gold. The cabinets Walnut wood with a walnut stain with clear coat. And are designed to match the clubhouse lockers at Globe Life Field. The backdrop is Linear LED lighting, 3000K Signature is a CNC signature with hand painted gold lettering.. And the placement of each retired number honoree’s cabinet aligns with the retired number directly above this space at the top of the ballpark’s arches, overlooking the playing field. The photo Images are printed on vinyl with Epson 9-color printer.

The branding of Globe Life Field is being directed by the Texas Rangers marketing and graphics department.
