KANSAS CITY, MO (July 22, 2020) -- The Kansas City Royals are excited to announce Greater Kansas City Day presented by Price Chopper, which was previously scheduled for April 2, will take place this Friday, July 24. Though delayed due to the postponement of the 2020 Major League Baseball Season, this will be the 33rd annual event. Starting today, fans who wish to support Royals Charities and the Rotary Youth Camp can purchase flags for $10 at area Price Choppers or online at royals.com/gkcday.
The limited edition 2’x3’ flags (photo attached) feature the new look of the 2020 slogan, Always Royal, and are available for the $10 donation to Royals Charities. The Rotary Youth Camp’s mission is to host organizations which serve disabled and disadvantaged youth, free of charge. This year, their mission has expanded due to the pandemic. Following the closure to traditional overnight camping, the camp and Rotary Club 13 are aiding the families of organizations who were scheduled to use the camp over the summer with monetary and in-kind donations. Recipients include Cornerstones of Care-Gillis School, Family Resource Center of Cass County, Camp Rise KC, Kansas City Indian Center, Joshua Center for Neurological Disorders and Girls Can Camp, among others.
The special flags can also be purchased online at royals.com/gkcday. Limited quantities of past flags are also available including the American League Championship, World Series, Raised Royal, 50th Season and the Kansas City Banner.
A tradition tied to Royals Opening Day since 1988, Greater Kansas City Day brings together hundreds of volunteers who sell the special edition of the Kansas City Star on metro area street corners and flags at local Price Chopper locations. However, due to COVID-19 concerns this year, flags will only be available at Price Chopper locations while supplies last. Royals Chairman and CEO John Sherman, Royals Hall of Famer Mike Sweeney and Price Chopper Chief Marketing Officer Casie Broker will serve as Greater Kansas City Day honorary co-chairs to benefit Royals Charities, Rotary Youth Camp and other local children’s charities.
