Houston wins third consecutive softball championship at the RBI World Series

Houston, Making its 12th Tournament Appearance, Defeats Atlanta Braves RBI 5-3

Houston Astros RBI won its third consecutive Softball Division Championship at the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series after defeating Atlanta Braves RBI by the score of 5-3 at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Fla. The Texas softball team, who finished with a record of 6-1, is the first team to win three consecutive titles since Atlanta’s impressive run during 2001-2007.

Houston’s Turiya Coleman was crowned Most Valuable Player of the Softball Championship Game for the second consecutive year. With the game tied in the top of the 7th, the shortstop lined a go-ahead, two-run single to seal Houston’s victory. The Oklahoma University commit finished 1-4 with two RBIs. The RBI World Series is the international baseball and softball championship tournament of the Major League

Baseball RBI program, which is designed to provide young people from underserved and diverse communities with the opportunity to play baseball and softball, encourage academic success and teach the value of teamwork. The special event in 2021 will ultimately include participation from nearly 200 young athletes on RBI teams from 14 cities around the United States.
