Boston recalls outfielder Jarren Duran from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA -- Prior to tonight’s game against the Minnesota Twins, the Boston Red Sox placed outfielder Hunter Renfroe on the Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List. To fill Renfroe’s spot on the active major league roster, the Red Sox recalled outfielder Jarren Duran from Triple-A Worcester.

Renfroe, 29, leads the majors with 10 home runs in August. In 115 games this season, he has hit .258 (105-for-407) with 25 home runs, 24 doubles, 77 RBI, and an .817 OPS. Renfroe leads the majors with 14 outfield assists, having made 108 starts in right field and three in center field. In his last three games, he is 5-for-14 (.357) with three home runs.

Duran, 24, made his major league debut this season, making 19 starts in center field and one in left field. Ranked by Baseball America as the No. 21 prospect in baseball, the left-handed hitter is batting .221 (19-for-86) with 12 runs scored, three doubles, two triples, two home runs, and eight RBI in 27 games for Boston. In 48 games with Worcester, Duran has hit .264 (52-for-197) with 15 home runs, 13 stolen bases, and a .911 OPS.
