Joe Mantiply named to National League All-Star team

Mantiply earns first All-Star nod of his career; third D-backs reliever to make an All-Star team

Arizona Diamondbacks LHP Joe Mantiply has been named to the National League All-Star Team for the 92nd Midsummer Classic on July 19 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Mantiply, 31, earns his first All-Star selection in his fifth season in the Majors and becomes the third D-backs reliever to make an All-Star team along with Jose Valverde in 2007 and Byung-Hyun Kim in 2002. 

  • Ranks fifth among NL relievers in WHIP (0.88) and 10th in ERA (1.91).
  • Set the Major League record for most consecutive appearances by a left-hander without a walk (33 games and counting).
  • Did not give up a run in 17 straight games from May 7-June 21.
  • Owns a 1.91 ERA (7 ER in 33.0 IP), .228 opponent average and 34 strikeouts in 34 games this season.
  • Selected by the Tigers in the 27th round of the 2013 draft out of Virginia Tech.
