September 17th, 2019

OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland A’s pitcher Liam Hendriks has been named the recipient of the 2019 Dave Stewart Community Service Award. Stewart will present Hendriks with the 23rd annual award prior to the game on Wednesday, Sept. 18 in a special on-field ceremony. The Dave Stewart Community Service Award is given annually to an A’s player in recognition of charitable contributions throughout Northern California and across the nation.

Hendriks and his wife, Kristi, work to leave a lasting impression wherever baseball takes them. The duo has taken a special interest in organizations focused on animal welfare, including Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation, Fetching Tails Foundation, Mission K-9, the Petco Foundation, and the Rescue Me Thursday campaign. The Hendriks have also taken an active role to stop bullying, teaming up with Strike Out Bullying and MLB’s Shred Hate campaign. Hendriks is a constant at events with the Oakland A’s Volunteer Team and the Oakland A’s Community Fund, volunteering his time at the ballpark and throughout Oakland and the East Bay.

The Dave Stewart Community Service Award was established in 1996 in honor of Stewart’s many years of community service in the Bay Area. Throughout the years, Stewart has been involved in many non-profit organizations, including the Oakland Boys & Girls Club and Team-Up for Youth, a program that supports healthy development for young people living in low-income communities through after-school sports and physical activity programs.
