The Seattle Mariners and ROOT SPORTS are once again bringing fans an innovative broadcast format when the Mariners meet the Texas Rangers on Friday, May 28, with PlayersCast. Former Mariners players Mike Blowers and Dan Wilson will partner with Angie Mentink, Emmy Award-winning reporter and anchor and former member of the Colorado Silver Bullets women’s professional baseball team and University of Washington softball team. The three will take over the TV booth as they take fans inside the game from a player’s perspective.
All three former professional players are experienced members of the Mariners broadcast team as they have provided analysis from the studio or the booth during broadcasts on ROOT SPORTS and the Mariners Radio Network.
On Friday, instead of a traditional play-by-play and analyst role in the TV booth, Blowers, Wilson and Mentink will engage in a wide-ranging conversation throughout the telecast. Fans can listen in as the three pros share insights and stories about the game on the field and the sport in general.
Mike Blowers is in his 15th season as the Mariners TV analyst. A longtime fan favorite, Mike did three tours with the Mariners from 1992-1995, 1997 and 1999. During his 11-year Major League career, Mike also played for the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland A’s.
Dan Wilson, a member of the Mariners Hall of Fame, has been a regular contributor to Mariners TV and radio broadcasts for the last several years. Regarded as one of the best defensive catchers in the game, Dan was catcher on each of the Mariners postseason teams. Wilson’s Major League career spanned 14 season – two with the Cincinnati Reds (1992-1993) and 12 with the Mariners (1994-2005).
Angie Mentink worked her way up from intern to an Emmy Award-winning reporter and anchor at ROOT SPORTS. Her transition to sports television followed an accomplished athletic career as an All-American softball player in college at Central Arizona College and the University of Washington, where she became the first softball player to be inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame. Mentink fulfilled a childhood dream when she was chosen to play for the Colorado Silver Bullets women’s professional baseball team, which toured the country and took on men’s semi-pro teams in Major League parks like the Kingdome, Shea Stadium and Coors Field.
The ROOT SPORTS PlayersCast production team is led by Jim Armintrout (Director) and Curtis Wilson (Senior Events Producer).
