Mariners outright RHP Matt Carasiti to AAA Tacoma

Mariners 40-man roster now at 37 players

HOUSTON -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has outrighted right-handed pitcher Matt Carasiti to Triple-A Tacoma.

Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, roster is now at 37 players.

Carasiti, 27, went 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA (5 ER, 9.2 IP) with 10 strikeouts and 5 walks in 11 games, including 5 starts as an "opener," with the Mariners this season. He was signed by Seattle to a minor league contract on June 7 and assigned to Triple-A Tacoma. In 15 relief appearances with the Rainiers, he was 1-0 with a 4.96 ERA (9 ER, 16.1 IP) with 17 strikeouts and 7 walks. He was selected by Seattle from Tacoma on June 23. He began the year with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. With Iowa, Carasiti was 1-1, 2.67 (8 ER, 27.0 IP) in 16 games with 1 save. He was released by the Cubs on June 7.

Carasiti, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander, was a 6th-round selection by the Colorado Rockies in the 2012 MLB First Year Player Draft out of St. John’s University. He made his MLB debut with the Rockies on Aug. 12, 2016 at Philadelphia. He signed with Chicago-NL and spent the 2017 season with Iowa, before pitching in Japan with Yakult in 2018. In parts of 2 Major League seasons with the Rockies (2016) and Mariners (2019-c), he is 1-1 with a 7.46 ERA (21 ER, 25.1 IP) in 30 appearances (5 starts).
