SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:
- Ryan Court, INF, selected from AAA Tacoma.
- Tim Lopes, INF, placed on the 7-day Concussion List.
- Ryon Healy, INF, transferred to the 60-day Injured List.
Court (#12) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s (7:10 pm PT) game vs. the Detroit Tigers at T-Mobile Park.
Court will be making his Major League debut with his first appearance.
Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, roster remains at 40.
Court, 31, is batting .279 (36x129) with 28 runs scored, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 9 home runs 37 RBI and 21 walks in 37 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season. He was placed on the 7-day Injured List with a strained left oblique on May 25, and spent 4 games with Single-A Everett on a rehab assignment where he went 4-for-10 (.400) with 1 home run, 3 RBI and 4 walks. He was reinstated from the IL on June 29. He hit safely in 13 of his first 16 games with the Rainiers this season, batting .339 with 14 runs scored, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 16 RBI and 10 walks during that span. He recorded a season-high 5 RBI on May 19 at Reno, leading the Rainiers to an 18-9 victory over the Aces. He is batting .318 (14x44) with 4 doubles, 4 home runs and 30 RBI with runners in scoring position this season. He was released by the Cubs earlier this season on March 23. After appearing in 8 games with Sugar Land of the independent Atlantic League, he signed a minor league contract with the Mariners on May 6.
Court was originally selected by the Arizona in the 23rd round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Illinois State University. He spent the first 4 seasons of his professional career in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, before being released on March 30, 2015. He spent the 2015 season with the Sioux City Explorers of the independent American Association. He signed with Boston as a minor league free agent on May 2, 2016. He spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons in the Red Sox organization, splitting time between Triple-A Pawtucket and Double-A Portland. He signed a minor league contract with Chicago-NL on Dec. 19, 2017. He spent the 2018 season with Triple-A Iowa, and was named PCL player of the week for the period of July 16-22. In parts of 8 minor league seasons with Arizona (2011-14), Boston (2016-17), Chicago-NL (2018) and Seattle (2019), Court is batting .275 (733x2667) with 405 runs scored, 270 doubles, 21 triples, 67 home runs, 382 RBI, 41 stolen bases and 354 walks in 770 career games.
Lopes, 25, was removed from last night’s game vs. the Tigers after being hit in the head by a pitch in the bottom of the 4th inning. He made his Major League debut as a defensive replacement on Wednesday (7/24) vs. Texas and made his first big league start yesterday vs. Detroit. In 2 games with the Mariners, he is 0-for-1 with 1 run scored, 1 HBP, 1 walk and 1 stolen base. Prior to being selected from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday (7/23), he hit .302 (108x358) with 58 runs, 30 doubles, 2 triples, 10 home runs, 60 RBI, 35 walks, 24 stolen bases, a .362 on-base percentage and a .480 slugging percentage (.843 OPS) in 91 games with the Rainiers this season.
Lopes was originally selected by the Mariners in the 6th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Edison High School in Huntington Beach, CA. The native of Los Angeles spent the first 5 seasons of his professional career in the Mariners organization. On Sept. 30, 2016, he was sent to Toronto as a Player To Be Named Later completing a trade made on Aug. 6, 2016 in which the Mariners acquired switch-handed pitcher Pat Venditte from the Blue Jays. Lopes spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons in the Blue Jays organization before signing with Seattle as a minor league free agent on Nov. 14, 2018. He has appeared in parts of 8 minor league seasons with Seattle (2012-16, 2019-c) and Toronto (2017-18).
Healy, 27, was originally placed on the 10-day Injured List with lower back inflammation on May 21. Before being placed on the IL, Healy ranked T4th in the Majors (2nd in the American League) with 16 doubles. Of Healy’s 40 hits this season, 23 have gone for extra bases (16 2B, 7 HR). Overall, he is hitting .237 (40x169) with 26 RBI, 13 walks and 40 strikeouts.
Healy was acquired by Seattle from Oakland prior to the 2018 season. With the Mariners he has hit .236 (156x662) with 31 doubles, 31 home runs and 99 RBI in 180 games. In his career with the A’s (2016-17) and Seattle (2018-c), he is a .261 hitter (394x1507) with 80 doubles, 69 home runs and 214 RBI in 401 games. He was originally selected by Oakland in the 3rd round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon.
