Mariners Select RHP Reggie McClain From AAA Tacoma

McClain will make his Major League debut with his first appearance.

HOUSTON, Texas -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has selected right-handed pitcher Reggie McClain from Triple-A Tacoma.

McClain (#36) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s (5:10 pm PT) game vs. the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.

McClain will be making his Major League debut with his first appearance.

Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, roster is now at 38 players. 

McClain, 26, is 3-4 with a 2.23 ERA (18 ER, 72.2 IP) with 22 walks and 72 strikeouts in 29 games (3 starts) in the Mariners minor league system this season. He has spent time with Triple-A Tacoma (17 games), Double-A Arkansas (6 games) and High-A Modesto (6 games). Since May 31, he has appeared exclusively with Tacoma, where he has posted a 3.29 ERA (15 ER, 41 IP) with 18 walks and 34 strikeouts over 17 games (1 start). In 26 relief appearances this season, he has recorded a 1.90 ERA (13 ER, 61.2 IP) with 16 walks and 60 strikeouts.

 McClain was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 13th round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft from the University of Missouri. He began his professional career working primarily as a starter over his first 3 seasons before switching to a bullpen role in 2019. In 2017, he was named a Mid-Season Cal League All-Star while with Modesto. He has spent 4 minor league seasons in the Mariners organization, posting a record of 24-27 with a 4.35 ERA (197 ER, 407.1 IP) with 90 walks and 362 strikeouts in 93 career games (60 starts).
