MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today acquired INF Joe Panik and RHP Andrew McInvale from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for OF Corey Dickerson, RHP Adam Cimber and cash considerations.
Panik, 30, has appeared in 42 games for the Blue Jays in 2021, batting .246 with two home runs and 11 RBI, while appearing in 21 games at third base and 10 games at second base. A World Series Champion in 2014 with San Francisco, National League All-Star in 2015 and Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner at second base in 2016, Panik has played in eight Major League seasons with the Giants, New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays. He is a career .268 hitter in 765 Major League games, appearing in 672 games at second, 33 games at third, 14 games at shortstop and four games at first in his career. Panik was a first round selection (29th overall) by the San Francisco Giants out of St. John’s University in 2011.
McInvale, 24, has made 15 combined relief appearances this season between Single-A Vancouver and Double-A New Hampshire, going 2-2 with a 3.65 ERA. Over 13 outings with the Double-A Fisher Cats, he has struck out 28 batters in 20.2 innings, recording a 2.18 ERA. A 37th round selection by the Blue Jays in the 2019 Draft out of Liberty University, McInvale owns a 3-2 career record with a 4.10 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 41.2 innings over two years.
