Red Sox appoint left-handed pitcher Matt Hall as 29th man for today's doubleheader

September 4th, 2020

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today appointed left-handed pitcher Matt Hall as the club’s 29th man for today’s doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays. Per Major League Baseball Rules, both teams are permitted to add an extra player for today’s games.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Hall, 27, made the Red Sox’ Opening Day roster and appeared in two games with the club before being optioned after the August 5 game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The left-hander started and threw 2.2 innings in Boston’s game against the New York Mets on July 28, then threw 2.0 innings of relief on August 2 at Yankee Stadium. Hall was acquired by the Red Sox from the Detroit Tigers on January 17, 2020, in exchange for minor league catcher Jhon Nuñez. He has made 23 career appearances (one start) between the Tigers (2018-19) and Red Sox (2020).
