MIAMI – The Miami Marlins will celebrate the 21st annual Roberto Clemente Day on Thursday, September 15 at loanDepot park, honoring Clemente’s legacy as a Hall of Famer and humanitarian in this, the 50th anniversary of his passing. Marlins players and on-field personnel will wear a “21” patch on their uniform sleeves, and Pablo López will wear “21” as his uniform number as the club’s 2022 Roberto Clemente Award nominee. The Marlins will also have “21” stenciled on the field behind home plate.

The Marlins will recognize López’s community accomplishments during an on-field, pre-game ceremony. Additionally, the Marlins will also present the Miami Marlins Roberto Clemente Award to Marlins Director of Experience and Promotions Juan Martínez, who was selected by his teammates for best representing Roberto Clemente’s spirit through community involvement and philanthropy.

Prior to the game, fans are invited to a premiere screening of Fuera del Ballpark episode Clemente x Siempre in the Biscayne Bay Brew Hall, followed by a discussion with Luis DeRosa, South Florida Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce President, and Daniel Acevedo, We Are Wynwood Foundation President, detailing the impact and influence of Clemente’s legacy on his homeland of Puerto Rico. Fans will also hear from artist Carlito Skills who is featured in the film and painted the must-visit art installation on the West Plaza of loanDepot park – Folklore.

The Marlins will be sharing of the legacy of Roberto Clemente with a series of school lessons at the Miami Marlins Foundation Slugger Schoolhouses presented by PNC Bank as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. The activities will focus on Clemente’s life and his impact on the game of baseball and philanthropy.
