SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced the return of their annual Padres Alumni softball game with their upcoming game alongside Naval Special Warfare Sailors to take place on Thursday, June 30 at Turner Field on the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. with notable Padres Alumni participants to include Trevor Hoffman, Andy Ashby, Mark Loretta, Carlos Hernandez and many more. New this year, Padres alumni and Navy Sailors will be mixed among the two teams competing.
Rules for the six-inning game will include the use of a designated hitter, a pitch ceiling of 10 feet and a five-run maximum per inning. Padres Hall of Famers Randy Jones and Garry Templeton will face off as honorary managers of the two competing teams. The Naval Special Warfare Sailors will consist of Navy SEALs, Navy Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewman (SWCC), and combat support personnel. Padres public address announcer Alex Miniak will also be on-hand to provide live play-by-play commentary of the game. Service members on base, along with their families, will be treated to food provided by Hodad’s, kids activities, ticket giveaways, live entertainment and a meet and greet with members of the Padres Alumni team. The event is closed to the public and only open to base personnel and their families.
The softball game at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado will serve as the seventh Padres Alumni softball game after a brief hiatus from 2020-21. Previous events have taken place at Naval Base San Diego (2017, 2019), MCRD San Diego (2017), MCAS Miramar (2018) and Naval Air Station North Island (2018). More information on the Padres’ military initiatives can be found on the club’s dedicated military website, www.padres.com/military, which serves as a tool to connect Padres fans to our San Diego military community and the non-profit organizations that support it.
A media advisory containing coverage details will be distributed by Naval Amphibious Base Coronado prior to the event date.
