Phillies reinstate Sánchez, place Bellatti on 15-day IL

April 22nd, 2023

Prior to today’s game, the Phillies recalled left-handed pitcher Cristopher Sánchez from his rehab assignment with triple-A Lehigh Valley and reinstated him from the 15-day injured list (left triceps strain). To make room for Sánchez on the 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Andrew Bellatti was placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 4/21) with right triceps tendinitis.

Sánchez, 26, made two rehab starts this month, posting a 1.04 ERA (1 ER, 8.2 IP) with 11 strikeouts against three walks and a .107 opponents’ average.

Originally signed by the Tampa Bay Rays as an amateur free agent on July 15, 2013, Sánchez was acquired by the Phillies for infielder Curtis Mead on November 20, 2019.

Bellatti, 31, has gone 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA (6 ER, 8.2 IP), 10 strikeouts and six walks in 10 appearances for the Phillies this season. He opened the season with six straight scoreless outings (5.1 IP).

Bellatti was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round of the 2009 MLB draft and was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent on November 19, 2021.
