The Phillies have signed right-handed reliever Archie Bradley to a one-year deal, President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski announced today.

Bradley, 28, made 16 combined appearances in 2020 between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds. He went 2-0 with six saves and a 2.95 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .246 batting average. Bradley had 18 strikeouts against only three walks over 18.1 innings.

Since 2018, Bradley’s 26.2% strikeout rate ranks sixth and his 8.6% walk rate ranks seventh among all National League relievers with at least 150 appearances.

Bradley spent the first two years (2015-16) of his major league career as a starter. Since converting to a relief pitcher in 2017, he has posted a 2.82 ERA in 220 relief appearances and averaged 9.9 strikeouts/9.0 innings pitched (257 SO, 233.1 IP). Over the past three seasons, Bradley ranks fourth among NL relievers in innings, sixth in appearances and seventh in ERA and strikeouts. In 17 of the 220 games, he pitched at least 2.0 innings and had a 0.47 ERA in those appearances.

Originally selected by the Diamondbacks in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft, Bradley has a career record of 23-25 with 28 saves and a 3.91 ERA in 255 games (35 starts) for Arizona (2015-20) and Cincinnati (2020). In five career appearances (12.1 IP) at Citizens Bank Park, he is 2-1 with a 2.92 ERA.

To make room for Bradley on the 40-man roster, outfielder Kyle Garlick has been designated for assignment.
