New alliance with Phillies & Temple Health aims to celebrate frontline heroes, provide vital cancer & lung healthcare services to fans

August 30th, 2021

The Phillies and Temple Health are excited to announce a new partnership that will celebrate healthcare heroes who have been on the frontlines of the pandemic. This new alliance also aims to provide Phillies fans with access to healthcare services offered exclusively by Temple Health’s Fox Chase Cancer Center, which is one of the leading cancer research and treatment centers in the United States, and Temple Lung Center, a recognized national leader in the clinical care of serious lung disease.

To support this cause, the Phillies and Temple Health will host “Strike Out Cancer Night presented by Fox Chase Cancer Center” on Saturday, September 25, at Citizens Bank Park at the 4:05 p.m. game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. As part of the event, there will be a special Theme Night ticket offer, with $4 per ticket sold to benefit cancer research through the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Proceeds from that night’s Phillies Charities, Inc. 50/50 Raffle will also benefit cancer research. Other highlights include a pregame ceremony featuring a doctor-patient ceremonial first pitch and free cancer screenings for fans at the ballpark.

The two organizations will also host “Temple Lung Center Night” on Tuesday, September 21, at the 7:05 p.m. game against the Baltimore Orioles. The event will be dedicated to bringing awareness to lung cancer screening, and will feature free lung cancer risk assessment by the Temple Lung Center for fans at the ballpark. The night will also include a ceremonial first pitch with a Lung Center doctor and patient, as well as a Phillies Charities 50/50 Raffle benefitting pulmonary research.

In addition, fans coming to the ballpark will notice new signage on the Phillies’ dugout wall and LED ribbon boards, providing additional awareness of Temple Health’s cancer and lung healthcare services. Other partnership highlights will include a series of free COVID-19 vaccination clinics, which will be held at soon-to-be-announced Phillies games.

“First and foremost, we are extremely grateful to Temple Health for continuously stepping up to the plate to tirelessly care for so many individuals during the pandemic,” said Phillies Vice President of Partnership Sales & Corporate Marketing Jackie Cuddeback. “Our community has long benefitted from their indispensable network of health services, and we are so proud to officially welcome the Temple Health team to the Phillies family.”

“We are pleased to be entering into this partnership with the Phillies to recognize the tireless dedication of our healthcare heroes and to bring critical healthcare services to our communities,” said Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE, President and CEO of Temple University Health System and Temple University Hospital. “This partnership will allow Temple Health to further its commitment to providing our communities with the healthcare expertise, care and resources they need to help them live a better, healthier life. We thank the Phillies for the opportunity.”

To celebrate the launch of this new partnership, staff at all of Temple Health’s campuses will be treated to a “Welcome to the Phillies Phamily” kickoff event, featuring food and Phillies fun at each respective location. The Phillie Phanatic also recorded a special welcome message to all of Temple Health’s 12,000 employees.
