Pirates claim Ashton Goudeau off waivers from Colorado

The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed right-handed pitcher Ashton Goudeau (pronounced goo-DOE) off waivers from the Colorado Rockies. The announcement was made by General Manager Ben Cherington.

The 28-year-old Goudeau made four appearances over four separate stints with the Rockies in 2020 while also being a member of the club’s Opening Day roster.

During the 2019 campaign as a member of Double-A Hartford of the Eastern League, Goudeau went 3-3 with a 2.07 ERA (78.1ip/18er), 91 strikeouts and .215 batting average against in 16 starts. Following the conclusion of the 2019 campaign, he was named an Arizona Fall League Rising Star after tossing 13.0 scoreless innings while recording 18 strikeouts in six relief appearances for the Salt River Rafters.

To make room on the 40-man roster, infielder Will Craig has been designated for assignment.
