August 24th, 2020

The Pirates have claimed RHP Carson Fulmer off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.

The 26-year-old Fulmer appeared in seven games with the Tigers this season (6.2ip/8h/5r/5er/3bb/7so) before being designated for assignment on August 20.

Fulmer was originally selected by the White Sox in the first round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft (eighth pick overall) out of Vanderbilt University, where he was a teammate of current Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds.

He made his Major League debut with Chicago in 2016 and pitched parts of four seasons with the White Sox (2016-19) before being claimed by the Tigers last month (July 25).

Fulmer has made 51 career appearances (15 starts) in the big leagues, including a career-high 20 with the White Sox in 2019.

To make room on the 40-man roster, outfielder Guillermo Heredia has been designated for assignment.
