Pirates Return to PNC Park for the 11th Homestand of 2019

The Pirates return to PNC Park for the 11th homestand of the season, a six-game stay beginning with a three-game series with the Miami Marlins and a weekend series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

This homestand is highlighted by the Pirates’ Cancer Awareness Night at PNC Park on Saturday, September 7. Throughout the night fans will have many opportunities to help the Pirates support local cancer organizations with fundraising opportunities on Federal Street and in the Crow’s Nest area of the ballpark.

Tuesday, September 3, 2019 -- Pirates vs. Miami Marlins (7:05 p.m.)

· Cancer Awareness Week Hospital Visit: Today, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Pirates alumni, mascots and staff will visit with patients and families at the West Virginia University Children’s Hospital. The visit will take place in advance of Saturday’s Cancer Awareness Night at PNC Park.

o During the visit, Pirates celebrities will deliver Pirates designed Love Your Melon hats and Starlight Brave Gowns. Love Your Melon's nonprofit partners work in the field of pediatric oncology, fund cancer research initiatives and provide immediate support for families of children battling cancer. Starlight Gowns™ make kids feel like superstars by replacing unattractive, uncomfortable and embarrassing hospital garments with high-quality, comfortable and brightly colored gowns. The gowns are being donated thanks to a generous contribution from Major League Baseball.

· Pup Night: Fans can enjoy Bucco baseball with their pooch as the Pirates present one of 12 Pup Nights at PNC Park. Each ticket package (1 person & 1 dog) costs just $36 with additional human tickets available for $36 each. · Pirates Play Ball Team of the Game: The Pirates continue the season-long initiative honoring a youth baseball/softball team of the game during special home games throughout 2019. Tonight, the Pirates will honor Fox Chapel 12U team as the Play Ball Team of the Game, presented by Nike. The group plays at the Pirates Charities supported Live Like Lou Field in Fox Chapel, which received major renovations this year thanks in large part to a donation from Pirates Charities. Additionally, the team represented Fox Chapel at a recent tournament at All-Star Village in Cooperstown, NY.

· Cancer Awareness Week Hospital Visit: Today, from 11 a.m. to noon, Pirates players, mascots and staff will visit with patients and families at the Allegheny General Hospital’s inpatient oncology unit. The visit will take place in advance of Saturday’s Cancer Awareness Night at PNC Park.

  • Military Day: Come out to support and honor our brave American military service men and women. The Pirates will wear their Military Day jerseys and special caps.

· On Field Military Ceremony: As part of today’s Military Day efforts, a group from the Veterans Breakfast Club organization will be honored during a pregame on-field ceremony and hosted in the Pirates Charities Suite.

· 50/50 Raffle: Today’s Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle, supported by Rivers Casino, will benefit the Veterans Breakfast Club.

Friday, September 6, 2019 -- Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals (7:05 p.m.)

· Free Shirt Friday: Tonight, the Pirates host another popular Free Shirt Friday as the first 20,000 fans, with paid admission, will receive a Pirates tee, presented by Xfinity.

· Dollar Dog Night: As a special thank you to the fans, the Pirates will host Dollar Dog Nights, presented by Sugardale, on select Friday nights. During each Dollar Dog Night, fans can visit any North Shore concession stand throughout the ballpark and purchase regular hot dogs for just one dollar.

  • Miller Lite Happy Hour: Tonight, and every Friday Night home game, the Pirates will host a special Happy Hour, presented by Miller Lite, at the Crow’s Nest from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visit the Arnold Palmer Spiked Bar at the Crow’s Nest for live music as well as discounted cans of Miller Lite, Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy, Blue Moon and Arnold Palmer Spiked.

  • Pirates Tales: Today, in a pregame ceremony, the Pirates will recognize students as the Glam Slam Winners of 2019 Pirates Tales. These students earned this opportunity by stepping up to the plate this summer and reading more than 21 books. Pirates Tales is a program, in a partnership with Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County Library Association, to reward kids for participating in reading programs at their local libraries. · Cancer Support Night: Join the Pirates and Allegheny Health Network as we come together for "Cancer Support Night" to raise awareness about the many types of cancers that affect our community. Arrive early to check out the resource fair on Federal Street and join us as we Stand Up to Cancer during the seventh-inning stretch. Organizations participating include Relay for Life, Butterfly Bandits, The Cancer Caring Center, Curerock Pittsburgh, Highmark Caring Place, Lending Hearts, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Love Your Melon, Our Clubhouse, Susan G. Komen Greater Pittsburgh, and the Magic Yarn Project.

o Ring It: Tonight, as part of Cancer Support Night, Allegheny Health Network will have a giant bell on Federal Street for cancer survivors to ring and will be creating free personalized “Remission Accomplished” tees with each survivor’s name and year they entered remission, as supplies last.

o Love Your Melon: The Pirates are teaming up with Love Your Melon for a special night at PNC Park. Each "Love Your Melon Night" purchase includes a game ticket plus a limited-edition Pittsburgh Pirates Love Your Melon beanie. Each ticket sold through this special ticket package supports Love Your Melon's program to give a hat to every child battling cancer in America. o SU2C: Tonight, fans will receive a Stand Up to Cancer placard to personalize with the name of someone affected by cancer. Fans will have the opportunity to show support as the entire ballpark will be asked to Stand Up to Cancer in the seventh inning stretch.

§ SU2C Support: In addition, fans will have the opportunity to support SU2C throughout the night with opportunities such as signing a special banner pregame on Federal Street or in-game at the Crow’s Nest and special SU2C merchandise will be available for purchase.

o Players’ Wives Basket Raffle: Tonight, at the Crow’s Nest area, Pirates Charities and the Players' Wives organization will host a special raffle that will include baskets of players' favorite things put together by their wives as well as other Pirates merchandise and autographed items. All proceeds will benefit Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute and the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation.

o Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation: The Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation will be on-hand in the Crow’s Nest area with donation opportunities that include special auction items, a chance to take a picture with Palmer’s 1975 Ryder’s Cup Trophy and Captain’s Blazer, and more. The Foundation joins Pirates Charities in fighting childhood cancer in honor of what would have been Arnold Palmer’s 90th birthday on September 10.

o 50/50 Raffle: Proceeds from tonight's 50/50 raffle, presented by Rivers Casino, will benefit Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute and the Palmer Foundation.

· Childhood Cancer Awareness: For the fourth consecutive year, MLB and its Clubs will raise awareness for the fight against childhood cancer by having all Major League players, coaches, umpires and grounds crew wear gold ribbon decals and wristbands.

  • Superheroes: Tonight, Pirates Charities pediatric cancer guests will be recognized on-field during a pregame ceremony and will be given their very own Pirates superhero cape, by a member of the team, to assist them in their fight. Superheroes and their families will enjoy the game from our World Series Suites, courtesy of PNC, where they will enjoy a dinner fit for a superhero.
  • VIP Party: Prior to the caping event on the field, Pirates Charities will host a special VIP party in the PNC Park Press Conference Room with pediatric cancer guests beginning at 5 p.m. The party will include face painting, airbrush tattoos, snacks, player and mascot meet and greets, and more.

o Arnie’s March: Following the caping ceremony, pediatric cancer guests and Pirates players and coaches will take part in a special Arnie’s March along the third base line. The march is a signature Palmer Foundation event to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer.

· First Pitch: Amy Palmer Saunders, Arnold Palmer’s daughter, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch in memory of her father, whose 90th birthday would have been September 10. The Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation is devoted to helping children facing challenges and works to help children fighting cancer.

· Spidey Sense: Tonight, the first 20,000 fans with paid admission to PNC Park will receive a Pirates Spider-Man Bobblehead, presented by Allegheny Health Network.

· Happy Hour: Tonight, the Pirates will host a special Happy Hour, presented by Jim Beam, in the Jim Beam Left Field Lounge from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Fans can visit the area for discounted Jim Beam drinks, live music and more.

Sunday, September 8, 2019 -- Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals (1:35 p.m.)

· Kids Day: Come down early and join the fun as the Family Fun Zone will be open on Federal Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lined up outside PNC Park will be inflatable rides, baseball games, face painting, information about the Bucaroos Kids Club, presented by Chick-fil-A, and more.

· Collectible Truck: Today, all kids 14 and under will receive a free Kids W.B. Mason collectible truck, presented by W.B. Mason.

· Kids Run the Bases: Kids attending today’s game are invited to stick around after to run the bases on the field at PNC Park with the Kids Run the Bases, presented by Rivendale Farms.

· Clint Hurdle Bunch: Today, Pirates Charities will host a special pregame brunch and meet and greet with Clint Hurdle for 95 guests from the Prader Willi Syndrome Association, PA Chapter (PWSA-PA) in PNC Park’s Press Conference Room. PWSA-USA provides support for individuals, families, professionals and organizations and is a resource for education and information about Prader-Willi Syndrome. The morning event is complete with airbrush tattoos, face painting, balloon animals and goody bags.

· Pitch for Hope: The Pitch for Hope Women's Baseball Clinic is a unique on-field experience led by the Pirates coaching staff. Participants will learn hitting, pitching, fielding and more. After the clinic participants and their guests will enjoy a private brunch. Tickets are $68 and include the baseball clinic, pregame brunch and game tickets. · Watson Institute Visit: Today, Pirates Charities is partnering with supporter Joe Knetzer to welcome 28 children from the Watson Institute for a special day at PNC Park. Children from the Institute and their families will watch the game from PNC Park’s World Series Suites with a day full of fun with face painting, airbrush tattoos and balloon animals, and each child will receive a goody bag filled with Pirates items. The Watson Institute is an educational organization in Western Pennsylvania made up of special education schools, programs and resources.

Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffles
