Roster move

September 14th, 2021

The Pirates have placed RHP David Bednar on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 9/11) with a right oblique strain.

Bednar has gone 3-1 with three saves and a 2.18 ERA (57.2ip/14er) in 58 appearances this season. Entering today’s action, his 58 appearances are the most among National League rookies (third in MLB) and his 2.18 ERA is the second-lowest among all Major League rookie relief pitchers behind Cleveland’s Emmanuel Clase (1.46).

Bednar has made 10 consecutive scoreless appearances (11.1ip) and has produced a 0.83 ERA (32.2ip/3er) in his last 30 games, dating back to June 18.

RHP Enyel De Los Santos has been recalled to take Bednar’s spot on the active roster.

De Los Santos was claimed off waivers from Philadelphia on Monday (9/13).

In 26 relief appearances with the Phillies this season, De Los Santos posted a 1-1 record, a 6.75 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 28.0 innings of work (13.5 strikeouts per 9.0ip ratio).

He also made 10 appearances with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he posted a 2.70 ERA (13.1ip/4er) and 24 strikeouts.

De Los Santos will be wearing uniform #62.
