Pirates set to host 2021 Curt Roberts Step Up to the Plate Diversity Recruitment Event

Event to Take Place Today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at PNC Park

The Pittsburgh Pirates will host the annual Curt Roberts Step Up to the Plate Diversity Recruitment Event, today, Wednesday, October 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Jim Beam Left Field Lounge area of PNC Park.

The annual event, named in honor of the Pirates' first African American major league player, Curt Roberts, is designed to provide invited college students a unique opportunity to interact with the Pirates' hiring managers and obtain insights into the business of professional baseball. This event is a continuation of the Pirates' Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion internal planning over the past year. The day's activities are for designed to be inclusive of persons from all backgrounds.

Activities will include a facilitated panel discussion with members of the Pirates leadership team; a strategy development exercise; and an opportunity to network with Pirates hiring managers. The panel discussion will feature six members of the Pirates' front office sharing thoughts on how they got into baseball, discussing their current job with the organization, and advice for those seeking to break into the business.

In addition, the 40 students from CCAC, IUP, WVU, and Point Park University will compete for 2022 Summer Internship opportunities with the Pirates.

The Pirates honor Curt Roberts each year with their diversity events to pay tribute to his role in paving the way for other minority players to play baseball in Pittsburgh.
