October 18th, 2023

Pittsburgh’s Ke’Bryan Hayes has been named a finalist for the Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

The 26-year-old Hayes led all third basemen in MLB this season with 21 Defensive Runs Saved according to the Fielding Bible (the next closest player was Colorado’s Ryan McMahon with 17).

Hayes also ranked fourth in Defensive Runs Saved (21) regardless of position according to the Fielding Bible in 2023, trailing only Daulton Varsho (29), Fernando Tatis Jr. (27) and Andres Gimenez (23).

Hayes is attempting to become the first Pirates third baseman to take home a Rawlings Gold Glove Award. Since 2020 when he broke into the big leagues, Hayes ranks first among all third basemen in MLB with 65 Defensive Runs Saved according to the Fielding Bible (the next closest player is Ryan McMahon with 43).

Nineteen different Pirates have taken home a Rawlings Gold Glove since the award was first presented in 1958. The last Pirate to earn a Rawlings Gold Glove was catcher Jacob Stallings in 2019. Rawlings will announce this year’s Gold Glove Award winners on Sunday, November 5 from 7:30- 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.
