Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to tonight’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Globe Life Field:
- Left-handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore activated from MLB Paternity Leave List
- Right-handed pitcher Ben Peoples optioned to Triple-A Round Rock
Gore, 27, returns to the club after being placed on the MLB Paternity Leave List on Wednesday. The southpaw last pitched on Tuesday vs. San Francisco, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings (ND, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 SO, 99 pitches/62 strikes) as part of Texas' 5-4, walk-off victory over the Giants. His team-leading 24 starts this season are tied with Cleveland’s Tanner Bibee and Joey Cantillo, and New York-AL’s Cam Schlittler for the most in the American League.
The 25-year-old Peoples made 12 relief appearances for the Rangers during his first Major League stint, posting a 2.19 ERA (3 ER/12.1 IP) with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts, last pitching on Monday vs. San Francisco (1.0 IP, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 SO, 27 pitches/15 strikes). The right-hander spent the last 37 days on Texas’ active roster after having his contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock on July 2. The Rangers acquired Peoples on June 30 in a trade with Chicago-AL.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 40 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP’s Carter Baumler and Jose Corniell, LHP’s Jalen Beeks and Robert Garcia, INF/OF Michael Helman, and C Danny Jansen).
