Arlington, Texas — The Rangers today announced the club’s August Minor League Award winners:

  • Player of the Month – OF Dylan Dreiling
  • Starting Pitcher of the Month – RHP Moises Morales
  • Defender of the Month – INF Yolfran Castillo
  • Reliever of the Month – RHP Kai Wynyard

Dreiling, 23, hit safely in all 20 August games for Double-A Frisco, slashing .429/.484/.667/1.151 (36-84) with 4 home runs, 8 doubles, and 17 RBI.  The left-handed-hitting outfielder ranked highly among Texas League bats last month in hits (T1st), on-base percentage (2nd), batting average (2nd), OPS (3rd), and slugging percentage (6th).  He also paced Rangers minor leaguers in hits and total bases (56) in August.  Dreiling hit safely in 25 straight games from July 31 to September 5, the longest run by any Double-A hitter this year.  A 2nd-round selection by Texas in the 2024 MLB Draft from the University of Tennessee, the Hays, Kan. native has posted career highs in all four slash categories in 2026 – .314/.384/.527/.911 with 22 homers and 83 RBI in 111 games for the RoughRiders.

The 22-year-old Morales went 4-0 with a 1.44 ERA (4 ER/25.0 IP), 4 walks, and 20 strikeouts across 5 games/3 starts in August, leading qualified Rangers farmhands in ERA, wins, and WHIP (0.92), while ranking highly in innings (2nd) and strikeouts (7th).  His 1.44 ERA was the lowest single-month ERA by any Rangers minor leaguer this season (min. 20.0 IP), while his 0.92 WHIP figure was the 2nd-lowest under the same parameter (0.79-Dalton Pence in April).  Four of Morales' five outings came for Single-A Hickory, as he was selected Carolina League Pitcher of the Month for August after pacing the circuit last month in wins (4), ERA (0.82), and WHIP (0.86).  On August 1 at Delmarva, the right-hander fired 5.0 perfect innings with 5 strikeouts as part of the Crawdads' 7-0 shutout victory.  For the season, Morales is 10-2 with a 3.22 ERA (36 ER/100.2 IP) with 25 walks, 100 strikeouts, and a 1.02 WHIP figure, leading the Texas farm in wins and ranking 5th in both strikeouts and innings pitched.

Castillo, 19, converted all 82 defensive chances across 21 August contests with Hickory, primarily at shortstop (20 games/19 starts).  He tallied 51 assists and factored into 11 double plays during the month.  This marks Castillo’s second Defender of the Month honor in 2026, also claiming the award in May.  Tabbed as the Rangers’ 5th-ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline, the Venezuela product has registered a .974 fielding percentage in 2026 while also producing offensively, boasting the Carolina League’s 4th-highest batting average (.286) with a circuit-high 55 stolen bases.  Signed as an international free agent in January 2024, Castillo has a career .289 batting average in 243 games within the Texas chain.

Wynyard, 24, did not permit a run across any of his 6 outings in August, collecting one save and posting 10.2 shutout frames with just 4 hits allowed, 4 walks, and 13 strikeouts for High-A Hub City.  He finished as one of seven pitchers at the full-season minor league ranks to toss at least 10.2 scoreless frames across 6-or-more relief appearances last month.  The righty bookended his August with perfect outings, tossing 1.2 innings with 2 strikeouts on August 6 at Bowling Green and 2.2 flawless frames with 3 strikeouts on August 27 at Greensboro.  The Australia native was promoted to Double-A Frisco on September 5 and is currently riding a 9-game scoreless streak since July 31: 1-0, one save, 15.2 innings, 4 walks, 22 strikeouts, 0.70 WHIP, .140 (7-50) opponent batting average.
