April 8th, 2024

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Monday night’s series finale against the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field:

  • Infielder Justin Foscue placed on 10-day Injured List with a left oblique strain.
  • Infielder Davis Wendzel (#38) contract selected from Round Rock (AAA).
  • 3B Josh Jung transferred from 10-day Injured List to 60-day Injured List with a right wrist fracture.

Foscue, 25, was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday and made his Major League debut on Friday vs. Houston, entering as a defensive replacement at second base in the 8th inning. On Sunday, he logged his first Major League hit and RBI with a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the 9th inning. The first date Foscue would be eligible to return is April 18.

The 26-year-old Wendzel (pronounced wend-ZELLE) has batted .314 (11-35) with 3 home runs, 3 doubles, and 8 RBI in 9 games for Triple-A Round Rock this season, ranking among Pacific Coast League leaders in runs (1st, 10), home runs (T3rd), extra-base hits (T4th, 6), and total bases (T5th, 23). The infielder has made starts at third base (5) and shortstop (4) in 2024, while also seeing time at second base and leftfield during his professional career. He will wear #38 and is seeking his Major League debut.

A non-roster invitee to Texas’ Major League camp this spring, Wendzel slashed .366/.413/.537/.950 (15-41) with one home run, 4 doubles, and 10 RBI in 21 Cactus League ‘A’ games, as his 10 RBI were tied for 2nd-most among Rangers.

Wendzel owns a .230/.338/.439/.777 (244-1063) slash line with 59 home runs, one triple, 44 doubles, and 168 RBI in 294 career minor league games spanning five seasons in the Texas minor league system. His 59 home runs since debuting professionally in 2019 are 3rd-most among all Rangers minor leaguers in that span.

A native of Irvine, Cal., Wendzel played three collegiate seasons at Baylor University, finishing with a career .326 batting average, 24 home runs, 121 RBI, and more walks (100) than strikeouts (99) in 154 games for the Bears. In his final season at Baylor, he shared Co-Big 12 Player of the Year honors with fellow Texas draftee Josh Jung (Texas Tech), leading the conference in batting average (.367) and on-base percentage (.449). Wendzel was selected by the Rangers in the supplemental first round (41st overall) of the 2019 MLB Draft.

Jung, 26, was placed on the 10-day Injured List on April 2 after exiting in the 9th inning on April 1 at Tampa Bay when he was struck on his right wrist by a pitch from Rays right-hander Phil Maton. The first date he would be eligible to be activated from the 60-day Injured List is June 1.

With today’s transactions, Texas remains at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with four players (Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Josh Jung, and Tyler Mahle) on the 60-day Injured List.
