September 24th, 2025

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins at Globe Life Field:

  • Outfielder Wyatt Langford placed on 10-day Injured List (left oblique strain).
  • Outfielder Billy McKinney (#33) contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock.
  • Infielder/outfielder Sam Haggerty transferred from 10-day Injured List to 60-day Injured List.

Langford, 23, exited last night's game versus Minnesota in the 5th inning due to left side tightness. The outfielder batted .241/.344/.431/.775 (118-489) with 22 home runs, one triple, 25 doubles, and 62 RBI in 134 games for Texas this season, his 2nd Major League campaign. Langford leads the Rangers this season in home runs and stolen bases (22), as he became the youngest-ever Ranger to record a 20-home run, 20-stolen base campaign after stealing his 20th base on September 16 at Houston. This marks the third Injured List stint for Langford in 2025, joining his previous stays from April 9-19 (right oblique strain) and June 25-July 4 (left oblique strain).

McKinney, 31, is making his second stint on Texas' active roster this year, as the left-handed-hitting outfielder went 1-for-7 with one walk and one run scored in 2 starts from July 1-2 before being designated for assignment on July 4. He made his Rangers' debut on July 1 vs. Baltimore in a start at designated hitter (1-for-4) and was the club's starting leftfielder on July 2 vs. Baltimore. In 65 games with Triple-A Round Rock this year, the Dallas, Tex. native and Plano West High School product slashed .268/.357/.455/.812 (60-224) with 9 home runs, 2 triples, 11 doubles, and 39 RBI. McKinney owns a .208 average with 34 home runs and 88 RBI over 323 career Major League games in parts of 8 seasons with New York-AL (2018, 2023), Toronto (2018-20), Milwaukee (2021), New York-NL (2021), Los Angeles-NL (2021), Oakland (2022), Pittsburgh (2024), and Texas (2025).

Haggerty had been on the 10-day Injured List with left ankle inflammation since August 17, missing the club’s last 33 games. The 31-year-old switch-hitter batted .253 (41-162) with 2 home runs, 13 RBI, 12 stolen bases, and 31 runs scored in 64 games with Texas this season.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players (Cody Bradford, Evan Carter, Jon Gray, Sam Haggerty, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
