Rangers Recall LHP Wes Benjamin from Triple-A Round Rock, option RHP Jimmy Herget to Round Rock

Benjamin will be in fifth stint with Rangers in 2021

Oakland, Calif. — The Texas Rangers announced prior to Sunday’s game in Oakland that the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Wes Benjamin (#63) from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned right-handed pitcher Jimmy Herget to Round Rock.

Benjamin will be in his fifth stint with the Rangers this season: Opening Day-April 16, May 14, May 25-June 3, and June 23-July 2. He has gone 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA (12 ER/13.1 IP) in 7 games/one start for Texas in 2021, his second straight season to see Major League action with the Rangers. His last appearance for Texas came in relief on June 24 vs. OAK (1.0 IP, 0 R). Benjamin has spent the balance of the campaign with Round Rock, going 2-4 with an 8.84 ERA (37 ER/37.2 IP) in 10 games/starts. His last outing for the Express was a start on Tuesday vs. Oklahoma City (L, 5.0 IP, 7 R-ER).

Herget went 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA (4 ER/4.0 IP) in 4 relief appearances for the Rangers after having his contract selected from Round Rock on Monday. He spent the entire season with the Express up until his selection, going 2-2 with a 2.63 ERA (11 ER/37.2 IP), 1.062 WHIP figure, and 11.5 strikeouts per 9 innings over 27 relief appearances.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with eight players on the 60-day Injured List.
