Oakland, Calif. — The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has selected the contract of catcher Tim Federowicz (#50, pronounced fehd-er-oh-vich) from Triple-A Nashville. He will be active for tonight’s series opener against the Athletics in Oakland.

To make room for Federowicz on the 40-man roster, the Rangers have transferred outfielder Joey Gallo from the 10-day to the 60-day injured list. Following these transactions, the team now has 34 players on the active roster.

Federowicz, batted .169 with 4 home runs and 7 RBI over 28 games during his lone stint with the Rangers from June 7-August 1. He was designated for assignment on August 2 and assigned outright to Nashville, where he finished the season. Acquired in a June 7 trade with Cleveland, Federowicz combined to bat .224 with 3 home runs and 21 RBI over 42 games with Columbus and Nashville at the Triple-A level this season. His last game with Nashville was September 2 vs. San Antonio. His last game with Texas was July 30 vs. Seattle.

Federowicz signed a minor league contract with Cleveland on February 14 after splitting the 2018 campaign in the Houston and Cincinnati organizations. He has seen Major League action in eight of nine seasons from 2011-19, appearing with Los Angeles-NL (2011-14), Chicago-NL (2016), San Francisco (2017), Houston (2018), Cincinnati (2018), and Texas.

Gallo has been on the injured list since July 24 and the first date he would be eligible to return is on Sunday. He had surgery on July 25 to remove a fractured hook of hamate bone from his right wrist performed by Dr. Thomas DiLiberti in Dallas. Gallo has a .252 batting average with 22 homers and 49 RBI in 70 games for the Rangers this season, and he was selected for his first All-Star Game. He was also on the injured list from June 2-25 with a left oblique strain.      

Following these transactions, the Rangers still have a full Major League roster along with five player on the 60-day injured list.
