Major League Baseball announced today that it has approved two roster substitutions for the Texas Rangers due to injuries sustained by outfielder Adolis García and pitcher Max Scherzer. As a result, García will be replaced by infielder/outfielder Ezequiel Duran and Scherzer will be replaced by left-handed pitcher Brock Burke on the Rangers’ roster vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2023 World Series presented by Capital One. Dr. Gary Green, MLB’s Medical Director, confirmed the injuries after communicating with the evaluating physician.
MLB Postseason rules provide that a Club may request permission from the Commissioner’s Office to replace a player who is unable to play because of an injury. The Commissioner’s Office may approve or disapprove the request based on the specific facts and circumstances. In accordance with the rules, both García and Scherzer will be ineligible to return for the remaining games of the World Series.
