BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today added infielder Taylor Motter to the active major league roster. To make room for Motter, the Red Sox optioned catcher Connor Wong to Triple-A Worcester following last night’s game against Cleveland. Motter will wear number 30.

Motter, 31, was claimed off waivers from the Colorado Rockies on Thursday. He played in 13 games for the Rockies this season, making two starts at third base and one in right field. The right-handed hitter also batted .335 (71-for-212) with a 1.220 OPS in 67 games with Triple-A Albuquerque, hitting 24 home runs with 57 RBI and 49 walks. In 154 career major league games with the Tampa Bay Rays (2016), Seattle Mariners (2017-18), Minnesota Twins (2018), and Rockies (2021), Motter has batted .189 (74-for-392) with 15 doubles, 10 home runs, and 37 RBI.
Wong, 25, is batting .308 (4-for-13) with one double, one triple, and one RBI in six games for Boston this season, his major league debut. In 21 games for Worcester since the beginning of July, the right-handed hitter has batted .313 (26-for-83) with an .887 OPS, seven doubles, four home runs, and 14 RBI.
