RED SOX ADD SIX NON-ROSTER INVITEES TO 2023 SPRING TRAINING ROSTER

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox have added six non-roster invitees to the team’s 2023 Spring Training roster: pitchers Norwith Gudino and Oddanier Mosqueda, catchers Caleb Hamilton and Ronaldo Hernández, outfielder Narciso Crook, and infielder/outfielder Niko Goodrum.

Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Norwith Gudino, RHP – Gudino, 27, posted an 8.87 ERA (47 ER/47.2 IP) with 60 strikeouts in 26 appearances (six starts) for Triple-A Sacramento last season. The right-hander owns a 3.74 ERA (166 ER/399.2 IP) with 0.72 home runs allowed per 9.0 innings over 125 career minor league appearances (61 starts). A native of Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, Gudino was signed by San Francisco as an international free agent in 2014.

Oddanier Mosqueda, LHP – Mosqueda, 23, posted a 4.30 ERA (28 ER/58.2 IP) with Double-A Portland in 2022, recording career highs in innings pitched, appearances (45, all in relief), holds (seven), strikeouts (76), and strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.8). Originally signed by Boston as an international free agent in 2015, the left-hander has averaged more than 11.00 strikeouts per 9.0 innings in five of his six seasons. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Mosqueda holds a career 3.96 ERA (119 ER/270.2 IP) over 148 minor league appearances (10 starts).

Caleb Hamilton, C – Hamilton, 27 made his Major League debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2022, playing in 22 games while making three starts at catcher and one at first base. The right-handed hitter spent most of 2022 with Triple-A St. Paul, batting .233 (48-for-206) with 10 doubles, 11 home runs, and 43 RBI in 62 games. Selected by Minnesota in the 23rd round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Oregon State University, the Washington native has batted .213 (323-for-1,517) in 467 career minor league games.

Ronaldo Hernández, C – Hernández, 25, hit .261 (107-for-410) with 27 doubles, 17 home runs, 63 RBI, and a .748 OPS in 105 games for Worcester in 2022, making 67 starts at catcher and 38 at designated hitter. He led the WooSox in doubles and total bases (185) and ranked second in home runs, RBI, and extra-base hits (44). A native of Arjona, Colombia, the right-handed hitter was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on February 17, 2021. Hernández was recalled to Boston for two Major League stints in 2022 but did not appear in a game.

Narciso Crook, OF – Crook, 27, made his Major League debut with the Chicago Cubs last season, going 2-for-8 with a double and two RBI over four games while making one start in center field and one in right field. The right-handed hitter spent most of 2022 with Triple-A Iowa, batting .260 (94-for-362) with an .837 OPS, 19 home runs, and 67 RBI in 101 games. Born in Nagua, Dominican Republic, Crook was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 23rd round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Rowan University.

Niko Goodrum, INF/OF – Goodrum, 30, has hit .226 (311-for-1,375) with 42 home runs and 152 RBI in 402 Major League games with the Minnesota Twins (2017), Detroit Tigers (2018-21), and Houston Astros (2022). The switch-hitter has started at every defensive position except pitcher and catcher during his big league career, making 137 starts at shortstop, 107 at second base, 43 at first base, 33 in left field, 13 in right field, 10 at third base, 10 in center field, and seven as the designated hitter. The Georgia native was selected by Minnesota in the second round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Fayette County High School.
