Red Sox add three non-roster invitees to 2022 Spring Training roster

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox have added three non-roster invitees to the team’s 2022 Spring Training roster: catcher Roldani Baldwin, first baseman Roberto Ramos, and infielder Yolmer Sánchez.

The Red Sox have invited eight players to Major League Spring Training camp as non-roster invitees.

Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Roldani Baldwin, C – Baldwin, 25, will be attending his third consecutive Major League Spring Training with the Red Sox as a non-roster invitee. The right-handed hitter has thrown out 95 of 279 (34.1%) attempted base stealers during his career. Baldwin batted .242 (36-for-149) in 45 games for Double-A Portland in 2021, his most advanced professional level, and played seven games for Licey in the Dominican Winter League following the season. Originally signed by Boston as an international free agent in November 2013, Baldwin has hit .265 (389-for-1,467) with 37 home runs and 219 RBI in 402 games with the organization. He was a 2018 Carolina League mid-season All-Star and a 2017 South-Atlantic League mid- and post-season All-Star.

Roberto Ramos, 1B – Ramos, 27, will be attending his first Major League Spring Training camp. The left-handed hitter spent the last two seasons with the LG Twins of the Korea Baseball Organization, where he hit .268 (165-for-616) with 46 home runs, 24 doubles, 111 RBI and an .890 OPS in 168 games. In 2020, he played in 117 games and hit 38 home runs, which ranked second in the league. In 2019, he was named a Pacific Coast League mid-season All-Star and finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the league in RBI (T-2nd, 105), slugging percentage (10th, .580), and OPS (8th, .980). Selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 16th round of the 2014 June Draft out of College of the Canyons, Ramos has hit .292 (520-for-1781) with 114 doubles, 98 home runs, and 349 RBI in 496 minor league games.

Yolmer Sánchez, INF – Sánchez, 29, has appeared in 657 games over seven major league seasons with the Chicago White Sox (2014-2020), batting .245 (548-for-2,239) with 252 runs scored, 113 doubles, 24 triples, 32 home runs and 215 RBI. In 2021 with Triple-A Gwinnett in the Atlanta Braves organization, the switch-hitter batted .216 (67-for-310) with 36 runs scored, 21 extra-base hits, and 35 RBI in 102 games. A 2019 American League Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner at second base, he has made 389 career starts at second base, 191 at third base, and 16 at shortstop. Originally signed by the White Sox as an international free agent in May 2009, Sánchez was Chicago’s nominee for the MLBPAA Heart and Hustle Award in 2018. He played in at least 140 major league games in each season from 2017-19.
