BOSTON, MA – The Red Sox are “Calling All Kids” to Fenway Park for free admission to the 1:05 p.m. Thursday, August 22, completion of the Red Sox-Royals game that was suspended due to weather on August 7 in the top of the 10th inning with a tied score of 4-4.

Kids 18 and under will be admitted free of charge and all other fans may gain admission for $5. All proceeds from the $5 tickets will be donated to the Jimmy Fund to supplement fundraising efforts from the 18th Annual Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon (August 20-21).

Tickets to the game are general admission and must be purchased online at redsox.com/August22 prior to Thursday, August 22, to guarantee entry. A limited number of tickets will be available at Gate E on the day of the game. Fans who attended the August 7 game may use their ticket stub to enter and will be guaranteed their original seat assignments.

“We haven’t had a suspended game that wasn’t played the following day in over 50 years,” said Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy. “This is a unique opportunity to open up the ballpark to kids this summer and also help raise money for our friends at the Jimmy Fund who will be concluding their annual telethon just hours before the makeup game takes place.”

Red Sox concessionaire Aramark will offer a special kid-friendly $1 menu that includes Kayem Fenway Franks, cotton candy, popcorn, chips, cracker jacks, candy, and Hood sports bars. Additional menu items that will be available at half price include: chicken tenders, fries, soda, water, and Del’s frozen lemonade.

Fenway Park gates for Thursday’s game will open at 11 a.m. Wally’s Clubhouse presented by L.L. Bean, featuring various games and activities for children will be open from the time gates open until 30 minutes after the game. The Kids Concourse will be filled with family friendly entertainment, including a stilt walker, face painter, balloon artist, juggler, and a caricature artist. Wally and Tessie will be available for photos in the Kids Concourse from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a DJ will play music before the start of the game. Immediately following the conclusion of the game, children will have an opportunity to run the bases, presented by Marshalls. 

According to Elias, the last time the Red Sox played a game that was suspended and did not resume the following day was June 13, 1968 – the second game of a doubleheader at Fenway Park against the Angels. That game was suspended in the sixth inning with a 1-1 score. The game resumed on August 4 with the Red Sox winning 5-1 on a walk-off grand slam by Ken Harrelson.

Thursday’s Red Sox-Royals game will be televised on NESN and broadcast on WEEI 93.7 FM in English and WCCM 1490 AM/103.7 FM in Spanish.
