Club Options Right-Handed Pitcher Brayan Bello to Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today recalled left-handed pitcher Brennan Bernardino from Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Bernardino on the active roster, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Brayan Bello to Worcester. Bernardino will wear number 83.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Bernardino, 31, was claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on April 16. The left-hander made his first appearance with Triple-A Worcester on Friday at Lehigh Valley, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and one hit batsman. He also made two relief appearances for Triple-A Tacoma this season, allowing eight runs in 6.0 innings pitched. The California native yielded three runs (one earned) in 2.1 innings pitched across two appearances with the Mariners in 2022, his only Major League outings. He signed with Seattle as a minor league free agent on June 27, 2022, after pitching for Tijuana in the Mexican Baseball League from 2021-22.

Bello, 23, started yesterday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers and allowed three runs over 4.2 innings. The right-hander began the season on the 15-Day Injured List and was reinstated on April 17, making his season debut that day against the Los Angeles Angels. The Dominican native owns a 5.29 ERA (38 ER/64.2 IP) in 15 career Major League outings (13 starts) with Boston (2022-23).
